Minor dent collision or did someone parked “too close”?
A car dent from a minor collision or a surprised door ding upon leaving the grocery store can be very upsetting. Imagine driving on the highway when all of a sudden, a hail storm! Take a deep breath, there are options available when dealing with collision or “surprise” door ding or dent. Depending on the severity of the damage, one can consider the following options:
- Minor dent repair using PDR (Paintless Dent Repair)– a technique used by highly skilled technicians to return the dented metal to its original shape. These PDR technicians use specialized tools to gently massage and tap the dented panel eventually returning it to its original shape. By using the PDR technique, you can avoid paying for costly conventional repair or traditional auto body painting while preserving the car’s original paint. Really, it’s a win! win! PDR is best recommended for small to medium, shallow dents without paint cracks.
- For more severe dents involving paint damage, a conventional body repair is necessary. You can either file a claim through insurance or pay out of pocket (ouch!) for the repair. Conventional body work can fix the more severe dents but more expensive than PDR. The repair also takes longer due to the long process of repair and repainting or worse, a longer wait for parts to come in if replacing the panels.
Why is PDR the best option?
- Cost-effective. PDR doesn’t require extensive tools and materials. PDR is a quicker process resulting in less labour charges.
- Minimal downtime. Dent repair using the PDR technique can be completed in a few minutes to a few hours getting you back on the road in time to get to that meeting or after school activity!
- Preserving the vehicle’s value. With PDR, the original paint is preserved maintaining the car’s resale value.
- Earth friendly. No repainting involved, no solvents or fillers needed to fix the dents- this makes PDR an eco-friendly choice!
PDR offers a more affordable, faster and environment-friendly option of repairing certain types of dents. It is best used when repairing small dents, crease, door dings and hail damage. PDR is an excellent choice for many types of minor damage but it also has its limitations such as sharper dents involving paint damage and large creases. If you are unsure of what option is best for your car, E&Z Optimal Detail & Paintless Dent Repair Inc. has highly skilled and experienced PDR technicians who can guide you make a well-informed decision.
